Whittington Beach State Park is a scenic coastal haven overlooking Honuapo Bay on the southeast side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles, synonymous with the beach's name, Honuapo or "turtle cove," frequently grace the area with their presence.

While most of the shoreline can be treacherous for swimming due to rough tides, the park offers a safer alternative with its inviting tide pools, perfect for cooling off on a hot day. The entrance to the park leads to a network of dirt roads, with the larger road on the right guiding you to the park's parking lot. Adjacent to the lot are covered shelters, and just beyond, you'll find restrooms and a shaded area where camping is permitted with the necessary permit. Picnic tables are available within the shelters and scattered throughout the park, often accompanied by cement fire pits for grilling. Visitors planning to cook should bring charcoal and a grate as some fire pits may be without grills. Whittington Beach State Park is the ideal destination for a beachfront escape rich in history and natural beauty.
