Situated opposite Sea Life Park Hawaii on Oahu's southeastern shore, Kaupo Beach Park is a slender beach park nestled alongside the roadside, featuring a sandy shore. While the rocky nearshore ocean bottom limits traditional swimming activities, the pier area provides favorable conditions for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. Families often gravitate to the sandy-bottomed pools near the pier, offering a safe and enjoyable space for children to play. The Hawaiian name "Kaupo" translates to "night landing," derived from the former fishing village that once thrived in this locale. Also recognized as Baby Makapu'u, Kumu Cove, and Cockroach Bay, Kaupo Beach holds historical significance as the site of the youngest lava flow on Oahu.
With a view of the Makai Research Pier from the beach, this area encompasses a small boat harbor and submarine slip, primarily utilized by ocean engineering firms.
