Ka‘a‘awa Beach Park

Fish on Oahu

Ka'a'awa Beach Park, nestled along Oahu's windward coast, features a slender sandy shoreline. The swimming conditions are hindered by a shallow reef on the nearshore ocean floor. Despite this limitation, there are a few sandy patches allowing for enjoyable splashing around, and snorkeling becomes more enticing during calm ocean conditions.

Primarily frequented by fishermen, campers, and picnickers, the beach park offers a serene environment. Fishermen often visit to capture he'e (octopus). The Hawaiian name Ka'a'awa translates to "the yellow wrasse fish," referencing a reef fish that once flourished in the surrounding reefs. While the beach may not be the ideal spot for extensive swimming, its unique features and cultural significance make Ka'a'awa Beach Park a distinctive destination along Oahu's coastal landscape.
